MOSAiC

Saturday, a storm with strong winds started, up to 20 m/s. Temperatures changed rapidly between -6 °C and -21 °C. As preparation for the storm, we brought the skidoos on board and left only two of them on the ice floe for safety and emergency reasons. The crew and science teams secured everything on deck, so we don’t lose any equipment in the wind.

MOSAiC Expedition

The Polarstern, a German research icebreaker, set sail from Tromsø, Norway to spend a year trapped in the Arctic ice drifting towards the North Pole. The research team will acquire data to better understand the Arctic and global climate change. MOSAiC (Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate) is spearheaded by Germany's Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) and is supported by Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), a partnership of University of Colorado and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

A multitude of educational and outreach opportunities are available for this current polar expedition. Links are provided in the table below.
