The PEI Council

Our Council plays a crucial role in shaping, sustaining and growing the polar education international network. We share a goal to connect the children, young people and communities directly to scientific research and polar knowledge sharing in and about the polar regions through our practice.

As a valued member of the IPY2032-33 Planning CommitteeSCAR Capacity Building, Education and Training (CBET) committee, the IPY5 Polar Resource Book partnership, PEI is focused on collaboratively developing the role of polar education, public engagement and science communication in and about the polar regions in the build up to the 5th International Polar Year 2032-33 (IPY5).

Throughout 2025-2026 Council members will help build the international partnerships, resources, research networks and community bridges necessary for renewing the IPY5 Polar Resource Book. Council input to planning and sharing international activities and resources for polar education, engagement and outreach, working with key partners like APECS..

As a community of practice, PEI relies wholly on the efforts of enthusiastic, experienced polar educators and expert volunteers from the global polar community. Time and commitment are essential to co-lead and follow through new initiatives.
