How do scientists and engineers work together? This web seminar, targeting educators of students in grades 8-12, will introduce participants to one of the latest polar research mysteries emerging from events that were archived in the Antarctic ice sheet 18,000 years ago at a time when the climate was just beginning to warm. This web seminar will feature a scientist and an engineer involved with the replicate coring project, at the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) Divide field camp, culminating in 2012/2013. Participants will be provided with detailed background information while also serving as a model for how teams in the real world can use the scientific and engineering practices in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to achieve their goals.
