To participate in this Master Class you need to complete this registration form. Registration will close on Monday, 31 October, 2016.
Please note that during registration you will be given the option to be automatically registered for the webinar on 31 October. If you choose this option, details for joining the webinar will be sent on Wednesday, 2 November.

This is a web-based class with one required webinar and various associated discussions. Participation is asynchronous, meaning that you may schedule your own time for participation within the class dates. The webinar will be archived and available to all class participants.
This course will provide you with an introduction to Antarctic marine ecosystems, and deeper understanding of how these Antarctic marine ecosystems are affected by human interaction and climate change.
Dr. Melbourne-Thomas will discuss techniques for using simple and effective photographs and graphics to enhance science communication presentations.
Betty Trummel will demonstrate two marine-focused classroom activities that effectively transfer the science concepts to students.
All classes in the Master Class Series have two goals and are aimed at a dual audience:
For educators: building scientific background knowledge and sharing activities to transfer the content to their classrooms.
For researchers: a specific science communication technique or strategy will be modeled and discussed throughout the presentation.
The purpose of this online professional development class is to provide you with resources and tools to increase your knowledge and skills as science communicator. This class addresses science and outreach content in context of the Polar Regions, and connects you to the PEI network of researchers and teachers.
Online Class Forum: This class will utilize web-based delivery. All students will receive notification to join the online platform along with any user-specific access information. Instruction and interaction forums will be established in the class discussion site accessed through the “Members” area of the PEI website.
Webinars: There will be one webinar (web seminar) using the online platform, Go-To-Webinar (provided by our sponsor CLiC). Information will be sent to participants regarding this system. This class series includes webinars with expert scientists and experienced educators, online discussion, and evaluation.
Evaluation: As part of the course development, a participant evaluation will measure educators’ pre and post course knowledge of the science topic. Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation if they successfully complete all activities in the syllabus. (link to Detailed syllabus)
This is a web-based course built for your personal professional growth. To get the most from the class, participants should participate in webinars and discussions. If participation is not possible, archives will be accessible so that participants can watch/listen on their own time.
